  • Can my art and photography coexist in the same Instagram account?

    Hi all,

Finding myself torn between two options and in need of your good suggestions.

I own an art account where I post mostly paintings and drawings. It has a smallish following of 3.4k, and its growth has been very stalled lately (partly due to not posting as often as before).

I also travel and love taking photos. Lately, my drive for photography has lately spiked, and wish to share some of these on social media. Now I’m finding myself confronted with the decision to start sharing photography on my account and let them live aside my artwork, or else open a new account entirely focused on photography.

I can see both sides of the matter: Painting/drawing and photography are not so far apart and could coexist together if done right, it would be an “artist” account as a whole. The negative side is, my art could get lost between photos eventually (as I’ll be more likely to be producing more photos than artwork, due to the slow nature of producing art).

On the other hand, having separate accounts would mean a more focused target audience, but with the caveat of having to grow two accounts which as you all know takes a lot of energy and time.

Thanks for any suggestions, any insight helps!

If needed I can post my IG for context (not sure if that counts as self-promotion though).

Hope you all have a good day.

I think the first question is to ask yourself what brand are you trying to establish. A brand of YOU or a brand(s) of PRODUCTS.

If the brand(s) are more about the products/product categories, then two make sense. If the brand is YOU and about your creations, your stories, and your travel, then you can just keep it to one account.

If the brand(s) are more about the products/product categories, then two make sense.

Once you identify your goals, it will make it easier to decide which strategy works best for you.
