Campaign Overlap in Google Ads [Handling different match types in different campaigns]

Posted by seohelper on May 13, 2020 at 3:25 am

I am running two different campaigns for a client targeting the same region.

Campaign A: This campaign contains exact match keywords that have a really good conversion rate and the bidding strategy is manual. Conv value/cost is 3.36 for the last 2 months.

Campaign B: This campaign contains similar keywords about the same product but they are broad match or phrase match. The bidding strategy for this campaign is tCPA. Conv value/cost is 3.75 for the last 2 months.

There is potential for growth in both campaigns but more in campaign B. Up until now campaign B had a maximum bid limit for $0.90 but I removed that this week.

My concern is could the campaigns be competing with each other in cases of similar search terms?

How can I check the amount of overlap or make this setup better?

In campaign B, run exact match negatives with the keywords from campaign A

Ideally, we put all keywords of campaign A as the negative keyword (exact match) in campaign B. In that case, they won’t be competing with each other.

Also, I would recommend keeping an eye on search term report of campaign B. If there is any search term not in keywords but continuously performing well, you can add them as a keyword in exact match for a better result.
