  • Bilingual Posting on FB + IG

    Good morning,

I work with an agency and we’re working on an account who are launching their social media in French and English. They’ve asked us to post using the “industry standard” of bilingual posting, which I’m not familiar with.. I know on FB you can choose to post in two languages and it will automatically show the language in which the user has set in their settings. Is this feature also available in Instagram? If not, what do companies usually do when they post in two languages on IG?

As a follow up question, am I able to do bilingual posting on these two platforms directly through hootsuite? Thanks in advance for any information.

Instagram is quite limited in the amount of text it shows at first. I’ve seen accounts start the post with “X Language below” in that language, then do the caption in the first language sometimes leading with the flag emoji for the country, then the X language caption. See what others in your industry do.

Hi fellow Canadian! Montrealer here! MTL and QC companies post in both English and French. If you’re company is located in Quebec, note that our language laws require French first and then English. If you’re not in QC, then post whichever way you’d like. I recommend checking some montreal business insta accounts to give you an idea of how they are post bilingual content. If you’d like, DM me and I’ll give you a couple of names to check out (not sure about the sub rules for promotion).

To tack on to what the others here have said, I’ve seen brands have seperate accounts for two different languages and link to the other account in profile (on twitter and IG). If the brand is big enough it may be something to consider.

I wouldn’t do this with smaller brands.

What you can do is to create the same post, but one in English and the other in French and make a swipe
