  Backlinks to Product Images

  What’s everyone’s thoughts on backlinks to product images?

  I’m auditing an ecom website, and excluding the homepage, 99.99% of the top 200 externally linked to “pages” are product images.

  I analysed their competitors and this backlink profile isn’t seen across the other sites within their niche.

  Does backlinks to products have a good effect on rankings, and why might this be occurring?
