Backlink strategy for a small local business?
Posted by daonewithnoteef on July 28, 2024 at 5:51 amAs the title suggests, I run a small (~2m rev per annum) local construction business. What would be the best way to build some site authority/build backlinks? Thanks!

GuestJuly 28, 2024 at 7:39 amMaybe some PR in a local newspaper.
While it may be, let’s say a few hundred £€$, the link juice from such a website can have a positive effect on your domain, it could bring in traffic and also tells Google “Look this business is in [location] because they’re featured in “The Location Gazette”. -

GuestJuly 28, 2024 at 8:41 amIf you are looking to rank locally you really don’t need a lot of backlinks to rank. Write good content, setup location pages and get citations from local directories..that should move the needle in most cases..
How old is your site? And is there heavy competition in your area..?

GuestJuly 28, 2024 at 9:13 amIn local seo, onpage plays the most important part as compare to backlinks. As the competition is not that high and easy to rank.
You can use onpage tactics like “xyz construction near me”Moreover, in terms of marketing it will be great to get some PR and listings in some of the digital local magazine that people read/ranks. It will be a bonus if it comes under the discover section.

GuestJuly 28, 2024 at 11:24 amFor local business you need local backlinks, that’s it. Chambers of commerce, other local businesses, city .gov websites, whatever you can find. Send me your website link in a DM, I’ll probably give you some valuable advice.

GuestJuly 28, 2024 at 12:11 pmI also run a small local construction type business. I find local sports leagues that are hosted on town .gov sites in the area and pay for whatever is the lowest sponsorship level that gets me a link. Usually $200-500 per.
Look into sponsorships for long standing festivals in your area that have good domain authorities on their festival website. Most mid sized suburban towns have festivals around holidays and a big one in the fall.
Look for podcasts related to your industry and reach out to be on it. We were on one recently and the host linked us from his podcast site, from his business site where he promotes his podcast, on his LinkedIn page, and on his socials.

GuestJuly 28, 2024 at 7:07 pmI’ve worked in the construction industry, and I would say that the best way to get local links is through doing charitable work. Not only is it great for building relationships with local businesses (best links for local SEO), but it also generates good publicity offline.

For building backlinks for a small local construction business, start by reaching out to local directories and industry-specific sites. You can also connect with local bloggers or news outlets for features or guest posts. I found success by following Paul Gordon’s https://paulgordonseo.co.uk/seo-consultancy/ advice—he suggested getting involved in local events or sponsoring community activities and then asking for mentions on event sites. It helped boost my site’s authority and brought in some good quality backlinks. Just keep it relevant to your industry and local area for the best results.
