As a mental health organization, am I impacted by Instagram’s new restrictive settings?
I work as a strategic marketing consultant and I'm also a mental health/lived-experience speaker/advocate. I've been reading into Instagram algorithm changes for 2024, and Hootsuite says:
"As of 2024, Instagram automatically places teens into the most restrictive content control setting. This means that teens may have a harder time coming across potentially sensitive content or accounts in places like Search and Explore. This change is being made to help promote a safer online environment for young users.
Restricted content will include:
- Violent content
- Content about self-harm or suicide
- Content about eating disorders
- Nudity or sexually explicit content
- Content that includes restricted goods"
How can organizations within the mental health, addictions, and eating disorder industry continue to share/promote their programs, resources, and support via social media and still get good traction in the algorithm?
Any tips or suggestions here?
