I don’t like paying people to pretend to like our business. I don’t like the clients it brings. I don’t like the personalities of the influencers I have met.

They don’t know how to prove their value. Your number of followers doesn’t do anything for me

Scale has become even more important when it comes to driving any actions among users on the major platforms, and the influencers with that scale charge a significant premium to reach their fans. Tl;dr you’re paying more and likely to get less because of changes being made by the social networks.

Real consumers of products roll their eyes when influencers that clearly don’t use a product are pitching it for the check

They’re pricing is generally not concerned at all with the actual value of their service. They just want to look rich and buy more stuff to gain more followers. Their prices are generally way too high for the return.

Because I am HUGELY sceptical of the tangible value they bring.

I’ve worked with clients that spend six figures on “influencers” during certain campaigns and all they care to measure is impressions and engagements rather than tying it to sales, visitation, tickets etc.

A lot of these guys are pretty much stealing money.

Influencers is just a different way of promoting your product/business. It’s really no different then paying for ad or boosting a specific post on social media.

It’s all about choosing the right influencer. By that I mean you have to look into their analytics, audience interest, and demographics. If they have the same audience that your brand does, then they’re a great fit. It’s more about the audience they can reach, rather then the influencer themselves. I’m not sure why it’s frowned upon honestly.

There was no scale for fees + free products. A product that cost a company $500 to make vs a product that cost a company $3 to make. I’m not paying you $700 in fees PLUS and $500 my cost product and getting the same as someone who paid $700+$3 product with zero guarantees on sales.

I don’t want to support influencers because I don’t think they provide anything of value to humanity, in general. They are recognized simply for looking a certain way. Their entire existence is based on superficiality with little to no substance. Most of them just replicate what they see celebrities or artists doing or wearing without possessing any of the creativity of the people they mimic.

Nowadays most of the influencers that small-mid range companies can offer are pretty much useless. They either have bought some followers or just joined some engagement groups. So, it’s not like wasting your money. When we talk about influencers, then I don’t see any influence of them on others now. Unless it’s a big name

When I worked for a local, regional theatre, I hated getting messages from non-local influencers pushing to get free tickets to shows: “Hi! We’re from *two states away* but we’ll be in your city this summer. We’d love to see this show and promote it to our followers!”
They always promised a large audience, but how many of those people actually lived in our area and could attend a program off the influencers’ recommendation? Not many. It would be a waste of our tickets and time. My problem with the influencers was their lack of research on the organization before they contacted us.

What are those things you personally would look out for before working with an influencer?
