Why would anyone not be on twitter anymore? Ignoring the crazy media frenzy literally nothing has changed if we’re being honest

I’m still on, but weighing the options. Elon Musk has already started shutting accounts down he doesn’t agree with and I’m not down with that.

That being said, I need to find an alternative… and so far, there isn’t one that is jumping out as the clear winner.

I have 50 Twitter accounts dating back to 2007. I just use them for spamming about my different websites. Not in 15 years have I ever had respect for that platform or any other social media platform. Pro tip: never post original content on social media first – post it on your own website, after Google crawls and indexes your content, then post to social media… never give these companies anything of value.

Nope. Twitter was bad for my mental health. I would always overthink about someone’s tweet if it’s about me or not. Did not see any reason to stay

I still have an account to occasionally read updates for work. Sometimes I read it there before getting an employee email…

Otherwise I don’t post at all

Sometimes people leave websites with a dramatic flourish — “You’ll never see me again! I’m too good for this site! This site is problematic! All of you are social media addicts, unlike me!”

    These people almost always return.

Sometimes people get bored, get a hobby, increase their usage of other social media platforms.

    Those people actually stay off.

Sometimes people get bored, get a hobby, and increase their usage of other social media platforms. I recognize it’s important to people in my field, so, I’ve been trying to engage more there, and failing. I estimate that it still will be the default place for journalism networking. However, I’ve seen it get people in trouble more often than I’ve seen it help people.

Yes. I like that edgy accounts don’t live in fear of a ban.

    Bracing for down votes.

Yes, for now. My clients occupy a singular niche and Twitter still works well for them. Given Elmo’s meltdown today however, I’m not sure how much longer they’ll stay. They’re very conservative (not in the political sense here, mind you) and want absolutely no drama adjacent to their brand. So…who knows?

No, if you are active on twitter you are supporting Musk. Period. If you are there “just to troll” you are even more implicit. That is exactly what Elon wants you to do. DELETE YOUR TWITTER

I deleted my account a few weeks back. Kind of a bummer. I didn’t have a huge following, but I was plugged in with my professional discipline and business area.

    I really did love Twitter.

I don’t like when misinformation is allowed to spew all over Twitter, I’m out. When I saw Elon dumping internal records about how leadership and government were discussing what to throttle I left.

I’m not. Elon fired basically the entire staff so the cyper security is pretty shit at the moment. I don’t trust twitter right now to keep my data safe.

Maybe in a year, once the new staff has gotten used to the system, but not at the moment.
