  • Are hashtags worth it?

Posted by seohelper on May 5, 2020 at 4:56 am

Specifically on Instagram, I feel like this topic sparks a lot of controversy. I’m told on one side that using all 30 hashtags are super important to branch out more, and on the other side I’m told that hashtags realistically are a dead use now and don’t help.

I’ve always been a big believer that the most creative and entertaining content wins, but when it comes to features like hashtags, do they still help?

I use 2-5 per post and it works for me. More than that is spam in my opinion.

Voting yes. In my experience this is how you grow organically by using effective hashtags that fit your content.

Unless you are worried on getting shadow banned.

Hashtags are basically a free method of creating more reach. It IS important. Atleast on instagram. I often use 20-28 hashtags per post that are related to the post, my branch and my audience.

But its also like rolling a dice.

Sometimes the same hashtags will get me no extra reach while the same hashtags under a different posts will reach thousands of people.

On instagram you can view the analytics for each post and see how many people you reached with your hashtags.

I am going to say yes they are important. Not only can people follow hashtags (letting them see content from people they aren’t following on their feed), using hashtags especially being consistent with a set of hashtags will help you appear on people’s explore page.

Breaking hashtags down into size categories and having a healthy mix can be beneficial as well. For example having 2-3 largely used hashtags, 5 mid use hashtags and then some smaller/ niche hashtags.

A post with at least one Instagram hashtag averages 12.6% more engagement than posts without a hashtag. So yes, it’s still worth it this 2020.

Definitely! Hashtags on Instagram are still relevant this year. The right hashtag strategy can put your brand in front of your target audience, even those that haven’t engaged with you before.

When thinking of which hashtags to use for your posts, it’s more effective if you use hashtags that have smaller niche rather than focusing on popular hashtags. For example, instead of using #carsofinstagram for your Honda car post, try to shift your focus on community oriented hashtag like #hondacarsnewyork or #hondabrooklyn. These smaller-niche type of hashtags have more potential of reaching your targeted audience.

Also, try to look what kind of hashtags your audience and competitors are using for related service or product post to see which type of hashtags will get you higher engagement.

Instagram allows 30 hashtags in every post – another strategy you could try is to break them down. Use 5 hashtags in your post – this should be the most relevant and targeted hashtags, then put the rest in the comments’ section. This could be a mix of community-niche hashtags and a few semi-popular and popular hashtags.
