  • Advice on URL structure.

My current url is website /year/month/day/ blog post title. This website is pretty new and I only have 25 posts, but I realize that this structure will probably be problematic in the future when updating posts. My question is, is this worth fixing right now and adding redirects or does it not really matter for SEO.

You should change it now before your website grows

use this type of Url : website/category/postname

It’s not a problem for the SEO but its a better for the users and it’s easier for you to follow the metrics of your categories

I would suggest to change the URL structure for a couple of reasons

    1. Having too much depth is not good from SEO perspective
    2. After a few months and years, a “seemingly” old post will not be attractive for readers and for Google. By having te year and month mentioned in the URL structure, you are making it very obvious to everyone that the post is dated.

An organized URL structure is more user-friendly and can improve the overall experience for visitors.

I would keep the category, easier to find GA4 stats on page views with it nicely organized, as opposed to removing it and then trying to decipher in GA4 whether that page title belongs to a landing page or post.

Yes, you should correct the structure now. This would be a huge project down the line and restructuring the entire site could hurt rankings while Google recrawls the site.

Also, it’s not a good practice to include dates or years in the url because even if you update the post, the original date will still show in the url.

The later you change the URL structure, the higher the sunk cost!
