  • A simple trick to save Instagram reel without installing any chrome extension

Background: My team member from marketing asked me if there was a way to download Instagram reel videos. Her use case was simple. She wanted to download the video with the music from Instagram to cross-post it on YouTube shorts. Sidenote: Is it okay to share music from Instagram to Youtube?

I looked around and found many Chrome extensions that help with that. However, I wasn’t sure about introducing her to the world of extensions, not for a simple task like this. So, I found a hacky trick to run a simple javascript command in the search bar to allow downloading the reel video in a few steps. Not sure if this has been shared before, but in case you need a step-by-step instructions, do message me.

If you’re asking about music that was sourced from the Meta library, the answer is no. That music is for use on facebook and instagram only.

Answer to sidenote: I would check that the music you want to share from Instagram to YouTube is not from the MetaLibrary. If songs are
licensed, then it might also be tricky. It just depends. Just make sure
you are aware that your content might bet blocked if it doesn’t adhere
    to the rules and regulations.

I’m not sure it still works, but you used to be able to inspect the page’s element and get the img/vid url from there. Making it easy to save the file
