Concerned that my company will find out. But hey, nice to know they saw value in my work.

I love this, I worked in house at a job for 6 years. I was the marketing department. Boss hired a agency to review my work and they couldn’t believe one person was doing all the work. I quit the next day and been freelance ever since.

I’ve had this happen several times secretly because the company didn’t want me to know. Mostly because they perceived that SEO is easy and didn’t actually want to work hard. Always kept my job because their audits aligned with existing recommendations, usually which weren’t prioritized.

People should always be interviewing and companies should not feel threatened by that. They can let you go at any time so any bit about loyalty is just a guilt trip.

I’m somewhat likely to receive a job offer at an agency that’s a client of the agency I currently work at, and I really want the job for various reasons

But my contract says I can’t work with partners of the company for one year after my contract ends, so I’m scared they won’t let me

    I guess we’re in a similar boat

I’d never go to an agency again. You work 2x as much, for less pay, less promotion, less time off, less benefits, and you’re completely expendable. There’s a reason everyone goes from agency to in-house and never looks back.

You should be building your own business on the side. Never worry about stuff like this again in life.

Bad corporate leadership in marketing is endemic, I swear.

A consultancy poaching in house talent for a client is unprofessional as fuck. I’d consider that before jumping ship.

I don’t think it’s wild for leadership to want an outside opinion on things. It’s a healthy exercise as long as you’re along for the ride.

Only the right people see your talent and value of work. Because they knew this person could make a bigger impact on a larger scale. I’m really happy for you with the effort you put into your work and it got recognised.

Do what’s best for you. Don’t feel locked in. I’ve been running my own agency for 10 years but now I’m thinking about what to do next.
