29 days until Universal Analytics is gone forever RIP
Posted by ryanmhale8 on June 2, 2023 at 2:34 amTop 5 single worst decisions in digital media buying days is upon us. I try to find anything in GA4 that I once had in UA and I get lost in the circles I have to run. It’s one of the biggest time sucks I have in this business.
Sincerly,
A fed up PPC’er just trying to track some analytics

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 2:51 amSerious question; what the heck do you do with UA? I manage millions in ad spend and literally never touch it.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 5:33 amJuly 2024, it has been extended (unsure if this is just for 360 accounts however) UA currently though is unsupported with 0 engineering work going into it. Its better to move to GA4 currently. Once you’re using it, you’ll find it is far more powerful than UA ever was with all metrics and dimensions in the same scope.
There are features locked behind alpha’s and beta’s right now though which feed into the platform and make it far superior to what UA once was.
UA has been broken for a long time with frustrating aspects which only BQ could solve with a lot of data stitching, that has vanished with the introduction of GA4.
It’s only as good as what you feed into the platform though, including a good DL setup, tag setup and of course GA4 setup.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 10:40 amDoes anyone have a good resource to connect with Shopify? I’m looking to get e-commerce/ conversion data into GA4. I thought this was supposed to be Automatic with the Google Shopify app, but still looks like Tags are still necessary. Perhaps I’m wrong, need a bit of help. Thanks I’m advance.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 11:13 amDude GA4 is so much better than UA. This has been coming for like 3 years now. I am truly amazed at how many accounts I see so I prepared.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 11:41 amI was once really down on GA4, but it’s so much better than UA.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 12:08 pmAs someone who still uses UA wherever possible, I can’t deny that GA4 seems more polished, better designed and has better (long term) functionality and shortcuts.
It’s easy to say something is bad just because you got used to the previous version. But I promise you will get used to GA4 as well and at some point you wonder how you could ever work with the clunky UA.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 2:16 pmI would like to know what exactly OP problems with GA4 were. It’s definitely not perfect and some features are missing, but it’s way better than UA when you think about expanding data capabilities. Also, you already work with tracking events, you can make the transition seamlessly

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 3:43 pmBad decision by who? Google is getting rid of a giant liability that only affects a bunch of non-paying customers. GA4 is a smart move on their part and a better solution for privacy too.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 7:10 pmI like GA4 a lot, much easier to work with than UA. I guess there are still some missing features, but overall I like the workflow much better.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 8:04 pmGA4 is built for Marketers, not for website owners who rely on some basic data.
I know several website owners who hate that they now have to Google things or take an online course to understand it.

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 9:00 pmHonestly the thing that I liked about UA is the level of granularity you get. If I try to do the same on GA4 it takes me forever to get there IF I can get it the same level of granularity

GuestJune 2, 2023 at 9:27 pmEverytime i open my Ga4 properties a pop up asks me which UA account it is for. I select the only one that appears on the dropdown list and then it gives me an internal error.
I completed the setup, all the green marks are ticked, all conversion goals are already setup via custom definitions and audiences were never defined beyond users/purchases. Yet I’m still getting pinged it’s not set up properly. Any idea what I’m missing?

GuestJune 3, 2023 at 12:04 amIf you use it the same way, of course. GA4 isn’t designed for that though. It’s designed to help you bridge previous data gaps and help you understand what matters. Like customer journeys and behaviors. Not BS superficial metrics or last touch lol.
You can focus on new audience curations and targeting, cross device tracking, behavioral and attribution modeling, etc.
