I've got a business page that I have been running for my ecommerce business since 2016. During this time, the account has grown to 200k (since dropped over the last two years to around 180k).

We had a massive boom just before covid, due to lots of celebrity endorsements (organic, not paid) but since 2021 the engagement has been dropping and dropping. Where I used to get lots of sales attributed to organic posts, I now get none, and my ads do all of the heavy listing.

I'm worried that the followers that I gained in the early days are no longer engaged now the celebrities are no longer endorsing or relevant any more, meaning that engagement on each post is dropping. For example, reels that I would post and would get 15-20k likes and tonnes of comments are now getting around 10-20, and although I know likes and comments aren't the only attributes to concern myself with, I can see in the shop analytics that I am getting no real sales from posting on the platform any more.

Do you think that restarting the account and signposting currently engaged followers to it would be the correct idea? I'm out of ideas of how to revive the account, as I feel there are so many disengaged followers now that it's almost an impossible task, I have also had the thought of paying to remove inactive followers, but I do not know if this will impact my account long term.

I would say create a new one but still keep your old one just in case their stupid algorithm reverts back to working normal.

Restarting could help if you’re struggling to engage your current audience. Try creating fresh content and consider targeted ads to attract new followers. Paying to remove inactive accounts might help but focusing on engaging content and audience interactions might be a better long term strategy.

Organic content is receiving much less engagement than what it did a couple years ago. It’s only showed to a very small percentage of your followers. It might be worthwhile boosting some of your posts, that will illustrate how the algorithm has changed. It’s relying on paid advertising. Post reels more than static posts – which don’t perform well anymore, and don’t gain anywhere near as much reach.
