  • Will ai content Hurt my traffic?

    Hey everyone,

I’m currently working on SEO for my own website. I don’t really have the funds for backlinks right now, so I’ve been focusing on cleaning up the “garbage” on my site and optimizing what’s already there.

    Here’s what I’ve been doing:

    • Checking Google Search Console, finding queries, and answering them with FAQ sections (mostly written with AI).

    • Writing some semantic overview articles (also with AI, using Claude).

    • Started implementing these changes around mid-August.

Since then, I’ve noticed about a 30% drop in impressions, but my CTR has gone up a bit.

Do you think I’m making a mistake by relying on AI-generated content for FAQs and articles? Or is this just part of the normal SEO fluctuations when making changes?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

No. I’ve created a site to just try this. Fresh domain, full AI generated content without any human editing. Site’s getting 2.1K clicks per month and growing steadily.

Why read AI generated articles when I can just ask chatgpt directly?

Does not matter! If the content is helpful for the audience, Google will rank it up. While generating content using AI, keep in mind to use as many references as possible, give all the necessary inputs on how you want the content to be, and how deeply it will cover a query.

The main question to ask yourself is : if you read the content, is it qualitative ? Does the sentences seem natural or AI generated ?

The important thing to consider is the online reputation of this website, this is what matters for AI search results. But also for the classic ones.

Google thinks like this : “You give answers to FAQs but what is your legitimacy?”. And for Google, you get legitimacy by participating in forums, social networks ( especially LinkedIn), doing video online, etc…

A part of the problem could be from this.

AI generated content will definitely hurt, especially without some serious editing.

Google isn’t stupid, they are not going to want to train future models on data already generated by AI. All content is watermarked using various methods, not sure most of these are known.

If you can tell it’s AI by reading it, edit away.

Using AI content isn’t automatically a problem as long as it’s useful, accurate, and adds value for users. Focus on making sure the FAQs and articles genuinely answer questions and fit naturally on your site. With time and monitoring, things usually stabilise.

AI is the way to go for sure but i would manually edit the content, I would replace words and phrases that I dont personally use and that would humanize it well enough.

If publishing knowledge-base, maybe, if publishing thoughts, will not

Someone mentioned this but must reiterate. If you don’t have a human to edit/monitor genai then Yes, it will and can hurt your traffic.

If you are not double checking what ai is generating, mistakes will pass through and robots will pickup on it, indexing those mistakes, which in turn can hurt your rankings if sloppy content is being returned.

Not to mention your credibility will go down the drain. Train your ai to be smarter in that regards.
