Why is my instagram account not growing?
My first few videos weren’t great quality because I was still learning how to make them. Over the past few weeks, though, I’ve been consistently posting twice a week, mainly Reels. I try to engage by commenting on similar accounts, but it’s hard to find smaller creators, and with larger ones, I’m not sure how many meaningful comments I can really leave on silly cat videos.
Right now I only have 16 followers—it’s all family and friends who found me, or a few people who came across my comments on other pages.
The other day, someone commented that they were hoping to reach 100 followers. I checked their page and saw they already had 1,000. I congratulated them and mentioned that I was also hoping to reach 100. They replied saying they followed me and that my page was cute. I felt so good—like maybe I’m actually doing something right and just need to be patient and let the algorithm connect me with the right people.
But shortly after, they unfollowed me. When I mentioned it, they messaged saying they thought I had unfollowed them. That’s not true, because I never followed them in the first place. I didn’t realize this had been another follow for follow situation.
Anyways, I’m feeling a bit dejected and wanted to ask what’s wrong with my content? I wasn’t expecting to become successful overnight. I just thought I could gain at least 1 follower that wasn’t a friend or someone who only wants me to follow them back.

Also, side note: does it look bad if I’m following a lot of accounts but don’t have many followers myself? I wanted to hold off on following people until I wasn’t hovering in the teens in terms of my follower count.
