The GEO campaign knows that its success is in GEO != SEO. 1) Thats how they get the brand-orientated, typicall "old school" CMOs who've been thinking SEO should be dead every day. Every day is groundhog day – today is the day the newspapers announce Google's timely death. It never happens.

Then – boom – Open AI launched and in their minds – SEO died. I work with lots of them. They're so happy. They love sharing the little infographic of how LLMs "cite" reddit. They dont really know what reddit is but they know there's lots of eyeballs and that ChatGPT is doing all the dirty work for them.

Finally – this SEO BS and esp PageRank is over. And thats why the GEO vs SEO Debate exists.

Actually yes, the division between seo and geo is greatly exaggerated (for commercial reasons I guess). When you contribute to your content enhancement, you gradually develop both. When people hurry up to improve their geo presence now, they automatically fix the things they ought to have fixed long ago during seo optimization

Geo isn’t that hard I feel like,
I just made a website and I ran it through all the ais to scan my site and I kept fixing things and changing content over the course of a few days and now I have it saying EXACTLY what I want

Now I just need some 3rd party mentions and once I hit #1 on Google locally,, ai will start ranking me

GEO is the parasite that feeds on SEO, that is why “SEO is dying”.

    SEO just started.

GEO is just another marketing gimmick by all those SEO gurus who quickly pivoted to this after AI craze. Wouldnt blame them as everyone has to pay their rent

Honestly, this feels like the same cycle we’ve seen for years. Every time something new shows up, people say SEO is dead, but it never actually is. What’s changing isn’t SEO disappearing, it’s how discovery works.

LLMs and “GEO” are just another layer. They still rely on content, authority, and signals that come from the web, which is basically what SEO has always been about.

So it’s less “GEO vs SEO” and more SEO evolving again. The people who adapt will win, and the rest will keep calling it dead like always.
