  • Why does someone keep offering me money to remove a jscalc app I made?

Posted by seohelper on July 26, 2021 at 3:02 am

I made a sensitivity calculator for a video game and someone keeps adding me on discord, offering $1000 PayPal to remove it. The calculator isn’t crazy popular or anything. They say it’s for SEO, and me removing it allows them to control an authoritative backlink. I googled “authoritative backlink” and found nothing.

Is this some weird black hat stuff? I don’t want the money since I feel there’s a good chance it’ll be sent from a hacked PayPal getting my PayPal in trouble. I’m just curious why they care so much.

We need more context- what exactly is the person asking for? Do they want the page? Do they want they domain? Do they want access to the code? The specifics they are asking for matters in this instance

Kind of sounds like your calculator ranks higher and get more use than a different calculator with a link to their website and they want to be the higher rank.

Ask for 10k, only take bank wire (like an actual bank to bank wire transfer, not some wells fargo cashiers check), and only take the link down once the money is cleared in a few days.

That doesnt really make sense. You deleting a page would not allow them to control a backlink. They could try to gain the link through the “broken link building method” but that would be a lot of money to pay for a method that has a low success rate.

Either this is a scam or your webpage/backlink(s) pointing to it are worth a lot of money. If you want to dm me the URL id love to take a look. I can check the rankings, search volume, and see if in fact you do have a high authority backlink pointing to it.

Sounds like it could be a competitor trying to outrank you. I’m not familiar with jscalc but I’m sure there’s a way to check how valuable it might be. If you’re not currently monetizing it, maybe it’s worth the deal or maybe you can offer to sell it to them?

If you DM me the link, I can see if it ranks for anything (free – I just have SEO tools I already pay for!)

That’s a funny SEO tactic. Paying to remove a page to outrank them 😀

Don’t delete it. Download a monitoring tool like, ahrefs and figure out why. There is value greater than $10k if what you say is true.

If they’re not idiots, they won’t ever offer you fair value – there’s no point because they wouldn’t profit or gain in the end. Why offer $10k for something you can only make $10k on?
