Why does Google Ads report a massive increase in conversions when I turn my campaign off…

Anyone else notice this happening when they turn off their campaigns? It's not the first time this has happened.

I turned off my campaign on 6th March. You can see in the above data, conversions for that week are reported as 24 even though the campaign only spent £55.

Every other week got no higher that 12 conversions and that was with vastly higher spend.

Note; I originally noted 21 conversion for w/c 3rd March when I logged on to check performance on 9th March. Since then the number has increased by 3 to 24. I am aware this is normal.

Is Google Ads promoting my campaign after I turned it off to try and get me to turn it back on?

Check conversions (by conv time), chances are your customers are taking 5+ days to purchase after the ad interaction so your attribution model is giving credit to when they were influenced not when they triggered the conversion. The conversion time column will show you last click model the day they fired the tag.
