  • What’s your monthly link building plan?

    What sort of default monthly link building are people using these days?

    What's working rack month? Is guest posts still the only way?

    Are you targeting specific keywords or doing more general authority building?

    Are you backing up pages and links with tiered links?

    Are web2.0's, citations and directories, still used?

    How are you doing tiered link buildings

    I want to better understand how link building works, but my agency is holding me back. They engage in unethical practices, like building 30 backlinks in a single day, but in reality, none of those backlinks ever get indexed. I’ve been deprived of learning the true process behind effective link building.

    There are many ways to improve your online footprint:

    * Social media: more of this in the next point
    * Backlinks: other websites talking about you
    * Digital PR: appear in the news
    * Industry events: be present
    * Podcasts: of course
    * Awards: win stuff

    It seems unfair Google treats LinkedIn posts, Fb and insta posts as no-follow. Even ads are no-follow. Do- follow is a long game .

    imo most modern SEO teams focus on high quality digital PR targeted internal linking and precise anchor distribution rather than oldschool tiered schemes. Web 2.0s, mass directories and tiered pyramids are largely noise unless you are doing churn and burn. If you care about long term sites, prioritise authoritative placements clean link velocity and page level intent matching.

    Sadly as a SMB operator (non agency) I long abandoned link building. Google still rewards crummy backlink gen where one of my biggest peers in the industry hired a company to do content gen and fishy overseas links that were not-toxic enough to work.

    And honestly legit backlinking in a niche industry is rare. Sure news articles, industry referrals are all legit. But almost no one ever has a reason to cite another website.

    What I find even more interesting is a couple years ago I decided to offload B2B content from my site because while it offered a consistent churn of content its audience intent was not in full alignment. So I moved that over to a new domain, 301 redirects. I never saw a major increase or decrease in position of my main site with this change. 🤷‍♂️
