What’s the most cost effective way to create a Google Data Studio dashboard with data from an MCC with multiple Google Ads accounts?

Posted by seohelper on January 14, 2021 at 4:50 pm

I manage over 35 SMB Google ads accounts in my MCC. To help me monitor these accounts, I’ve created two different dashboards in Google Data studio where I can view a summary of all of my account data in various different views. One dashboard shows a summary of all the accounts on the MCC, while the other shows a view of 15 accounts assigned to one particular client.

As best I can tell, there’s no built-in way to blend data from more than 5 accounts accounts within Data Studio directly, so I purchased a Supermetrics subscription and merged the data that way. This works great and both dashboards are functioning exactly as intended.

The problem is the monthly cost of Supermetrics. Due to the amount of accounts I’ve got, I’m stuck in the SuperPro plan which is over $250 a month. While this solution has allowed me to generate the reports exactly the way I wanted, I can’t help but feel that’s an awful lot of money just to blend data.

Are there any other more cost-effective alternatives? To be clear I’m only reporting on Google Ads data, and all the accounts are in a single MCC. Basically, I’m just trying to see a summary of all of my account data at once in various different views.

Hi try us, [twominutereports.com](https://twominutereports.com). You can connect all the accounts from your MCC account and monitor them in Google Sheets.

The Google scripts are probably what you’re after, you can use them to create various reports and dump them into a Google sheet. Which is pretty straight forward to hook up to a data studio report. They’re built into Google Ads & free to use.

You can set the scripts at an MCC level and then get them to process multiple accounts, iirc a script has a limit of 50 accounts. Once you’ve got the script up and running you can get them to run at set times & the like. The issue with this method is you’ll have to use some basic JavaScript, although I believe there’s a fair few examples out there for what you’re after.

Hmmm we just created a data studio with about 30 accounts in it. Are you sure you’re being blocked from doing this? Are you blending the data or having it created separately.

A cheaper alternative to supermetrics is powermyanalytics I’m currently building out my own api tho in the long run it should pay for itself

Create a Google Cloud account. Then from there create a script that pulls the Google data for each account into a bigquery database. Then connect that database to data studio. I do this all the time at my job

    Here’s how I do it:
    1. Create an MCC level script that pulls the data from your accounts and stores them in Google BigQuery database. Schedule to run daily. You can find example code here https://developers.google.com/google-ads/scripts/docs/solutions/adsmanagerapp-bigquery-exporter
    2. Connect the BigQuery database to Google Data Studio and create your reports, see https://support.google.com/datastudio/answer/6370296?hl=en

This will save you the $250/month.

If you are looking for a managed solution (the build vs buy debate is definitely a hotly debated topic, [this article](https://jrott.com/posts/why-buy/) does a good job at surfacing some points) I would love to show you around what we have built to help marketers like you at [Jepto](https://www.jepto.com/agency-portfolio).

Our approach is to not only surface basic things like where you currently are, but to use Machine Learning projections to tell you where you will be, to ensure that you can be proactive and not reactive. We also understand that running and maintaining scripts across a accounts is a lot of work, so we have Automation Jobs that automate tasks and create Insights.
