  • What’s the better social media management tool? (Sprout, Hootsuite)

Is there a reason to pick one over the other? Is one just cheaper or better (Sprout won’t quote me a price…)

Is there something else out there that’s the hot new thing that I’m missing? I’m choosing a tool for a medium sized org.

Went through this eval recently – if you want to track paid media spend, just know that it won’t accurately reflect in real-time on Sprout. I think that they pull the data like once a day so it never matched up. Even after my campaign ended, it still didn’t match! It even said I was spending on video ads (I wasn’t).

I ultimately went with Buffer because it did everything I needed from a scheduling standpoint. And from a workflow standpoint, I didn’t like how Sprout did not allow me to write multiple posts at once – I had to “Queue + Duplicate” if I wanted to modify the previous post for a diff social channel.

I haven’t used Hootsuite in years. It always lacked innovation to me, but it apparently had a UI update so I can’t speak to whether the UX has improved too. When I used it in 2018, it was pretty bad.

While you are evaluating something for yourself, I also suggest you look into SocialBu. It might work great for you.

Depending on how many brands & accounts you need to manage; if you only have one brand but need to manage FB, IG & TWT – you should be able to use the free version of Hootsuite to manage content postings. I have worked for a large Corp managing multiple brands and the free version was fine for me until we merged and we expanded our team to manage more brands and therefore add more team member access. We paid for sprout for a year and I didn’t think it added any value for us – I prefer to use the data straight from FB / TWT. Hope this helps, message me if I’m unclear.

Usually it depends on a combination of what profiles you want to manage, how many, what type of analytics capabilities you’re looking for, and your budget.

If it helps, I worked for a mid-sized business and researched a bunch of these platforms (including both Sprout and Hootsuite). We had 3 different locations with separate FB/IG/TW accounts for each, plus the corporate accounts so there were 12 total. We had a tighter budget and actionable analytics were high-priority, so we ended up going with AgoraPulse. I used it the most, and highly recommend!

To engage my audience I try to use the relevant tools. For example, I can go live regularly on IG from your PC or Mac using YellowDuck .tv, or make my page visually more attractive using Canva, schedule my posting using Hootsuite or Buffer.

Eclincher pretty much blows everything else out of the water across the board, sans maybe social sprouts monitoring
