  • What’s a social media practice/strategy that people follow by but doesn’t actually work?

I keep seeing people follow the same “proven strategies” on social media, but I’m not sure if all of them really do anything. What’s one ritual, habit, or a strategy you often see marketers using that, in your opinion, is just a waste of time?

hashtag stuffing. 15 random tags won’t make the algorithm love you.

Posting every day just for the sake of it. Nobody cares about your ‘day 37 of consistency’ posts if the content is bland. Quality beats forced daily output every time.

Thinking that views = success. No they don’t. Those are vanity metrics.

One overrated strategy is “posting at the perfect time.” Algorithms don’t care about clocks, they care about engagement. Consistency and shareability beat obsessing over timestamps. That’s why tools like Crescitaly matter: they help creators focus on reach and real growth instead of chasing myths.

I personally tried the same “proven strategies” also the one suggested by Mosseri himself on IG. Very little engagements, very little views….. I’m aware that what work for someone doesn’t work for someone else but what I’m seeing is that the more you try to copy the less you get. In an era where going viral is the goal I guess the only way to succeed is to put a bikini on and do something outrageous or to the limit or decency. Plus Ai is not helping stimulating the creativity. I try to say what I have to say avoiding trends….lots of trial and errors

I think posting every single day just for the sake of it doesnt really work. If the content isnt good, people just scroll past and it hurts more than it helps.

Posting at super specific ideal times, like 11:37am every Tuesday, thinking it’ll magically boost their reach.

Posting every single day… but there is a catch. If you are posting every single day just to post and hope something happens, that is pointless… But if you have a goal or plan, yes, it is good.

Posting every day does increase your visibility, and over time, it starts to push your content out more. Again, it depends on your goals.

Instagram’s algorithm in 2020 is not the same as it is today, meaning previously worked strategies are not necessarily will work today. These guys have top notch algorithm which constantly evolves and learns new patterns.

I would say make quality content and try to be consistent so your chances are higher.

A lot of people post for the sake of posting, but you’ve gotta have a reason. Even something simple like: “I wanna inspire one person today” changes how you write it. quality over quantity.

Engagement pods are super overrated. People join these little groups to boost each other’s posts, thinking it will trick the algorithm. What actually happens is you get a bunch of meaningless likes or comments from the same handful of people over and over, no real growth, and the second you stop engaging in the pod your numbers drop right back down. Algorithms are smarter than that, and genuine engagement from people who actually care about your content is always better.

The only truth in social media is there are no proven strategies.
