  • What SEO “Spring Cleans” do you like to do?

I’m looking for inspiration about SEO tasks that you like to do on an infrequent basis (every few months or once a year)

Off the top of my head here are some that come to mind:

    * Ensure time relevant content is updated (e.g. 2020->2021)
    * Technical audit (404’s, page speed, duplicate content etc.)
    * Check for cannibalisation content (would love tips regarding this)
    * List of keywords rank 4-10 and work on optimising relevant pages (meta title, h1, etc.)
    * Keyword gap analysis of competitors
    * Backlink gap analysis of competitors
    * Look at google trends for top keywords trends/industry insight
    * Internal linking optimisation
    * Check for “lost” backlinks/unlinked brand mentions
    * Content audit (what’s missing, what’s no longer meeting user intent
    * Meta title CTR “low hanging fruit” (underperforming titles relative to impressions/rank)

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated or expansion on how you like to do some of these points.

    * Errors in Google Search Console
    * Check for the sizes of images on the website for maintaining better loading speed

Hey there so I love this list,
I’m a young GM with past limited experience as a front end developer (woocommerce and WordPress child themes). We work with a remote web agency and kind want to take this list as a blue print for assigned work but I’m embarrassed to say if I’m asked for follow up questions for clarification, that I wont be able to elaborate. So can I bug you guys with more clearly defining:

    * Check for cannibalisation content (would love tips regarding this)
    * Keyword gap analysis of competitors
    * Backlink gap analysis of competitors

I add the year (*i.e. 2021*) to posts that are appropriate for quick SEO wins.

Not really SEO exactly, but clean out old files, spreadsheets, images, downloads, etc. that are outdated or not useful anymore.

I would also add going through Lighthouse reports. I recently cleaned up 3rd party tags no longer needed and improved my LCP scores!

All of the above and more:
    – Broken Linkbuilding
    – Brand Mention Linkbuilding
    – Redirect/404 Mapping
    – Page/Query audit – ensure no pages or queries have seen any significant drops for rankings, impressions, clicks, sessions etc.

The most efficient way I have found for checking keyword cannibilisation is to first keyword map focus keywords to each page (a maximmum of 3 ensuring they are unique) then add these keywords into a rank tracking programme and ensure the correct page is ranking.
Finally, I also export a page/query report from GSC and ensure none of the incorrect pages have been receiving more clicks than the target page for those specific terms.

Generally, all the On Page task because On Page is generally a one time task.
