What Gives With Semrush Ranking Reports?
Posted by on September 5, 2024 at 3:01 amSo for the second time in a week or so, this evening I received my Semrush position tracking email/report showing one of my keywords at the #2 position. Oddly enough, when I log into my Semrush account, it isn’t showing as #2 at all. Checking Google search console, same, it’s in the top 20, but not #2. Then other weird thing is it (the Semrush report) does show a move of up 16 to 2 from 18… I have no idea why the variance?

Thats because it uses an API – happens occasionally, maybe 1/100 keywords.
Its worth noting that SEMrush takes a snapshot in time – and Google oscillates keywords – ranking them up and down to test CTR (this is because it doesn’t use dwell time) – so you also may have caught it at that time.
Remember – CTR is an average, not a fixed position

Semrush rankings might be off because of delays in data updates or issues with their algorithm… Rankings can change often, and Semrush may not show the latest changes… To get the most accurate rankings, check GSC…
