What are your PMax traffic splits?

Posted by nomabek on August 2, 2024 at 7:13 pm

Hey y'all. Before I get started, I know PMax is a black box, of course.

We're about to start advertising on PMax again and had a question whilst thinking about creatives:

What is the current split of PMax traffic? Even roughly? For example between Search vs Non-Search?

I want to figure out how much time to invest in creatives. Would love to know what you're seeing at your biz, any averages you might have heard about, or even any unofficial information?

Thanks in advance hive mind x

For ecomm, we’re typically seeing anywhere from 85-95% Shopping, 10-15% Search, and 0-5% Display and Video. For lead gen, it’s mostly Search and maybe 1-5% Display and Video. There’s some free scripts online that will break this down for you.

Lately, we’ve been trying to avoid the “textbook” Pmax setups, so we’ve been using feed-less and asset-less Pmax campaigns to keep the Search and Shopping placements (and spend) separate and reduce/eliminate the Display/Video placements. It doesn’t work all the time, but it’s something we always test.
