A few years ago, this conversation might have seemed irrelevant—back when high refresh rates were still a niche feature. But today, things have changed dramatically. Most modern smartphones now support 120 FPS playback—even the base iPhone models have caught up.

And when it comes to content, the ecosystem is already there:

    • Many of the most popular mobile games—like PUBG, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Genshin Impact—already run at 120 FPS, opening huge opportunities for smoother gameplay and content creation.
    • Nearly all recent flagship smartphones can record at 120 FPS, from the last two iPhone generations to several older Android models.
    • AI tools now make it easier than ever to upscale 30 FPS or 60 FPS videos to 120 FPS with impressive results.
    • 120Hz TVs, monitors, and even budget phones are cheaper and more common than ever

So, with the technology ready and the audience equipped, the question remains—what’s still holding the big platforms back from embracing 120 FPS support?

Because for platforms, it creates a larger burden on infrastructure for a minimal return. Merely that technology can do something doesn’t mean it makes sense to do it
