In the last couple of days, my average position for queries has jumped from around 30 up to 10! It can't be true. I checked my Looker Studio report that lists over 30,000 queries, and there is a slight change, from around 30 up to about 25.

I read an article on Search Engine Journal today about Google possibly changing the &num=100 URL parameter. It's something that is beyond my ken, but maybe some of you can connect the dots here.

Whatever it is, it's really quite odd.

Lol I got excited too… went up 10 places in a few days but impressions/clicks same. So must be something going on.

Google no longer supports the &num=100 results parameter:(

Yup – because your impressions dropped.

CTR and Avg Position do not make sense at a high level – except in this instance lol 🙂

    Yeah it’s the parameter changed.

The AI/tool crawlers normally would crawl billions of queries to position 100 and that would count as an impression. Since normal users don’t go that far in depth, the position drops.

For example, instead of 100s of queries at 90+position, you now maybe have 60 queries at positions 10-30.
