I'll be creating a website in a few languages and I'm wondering what's better for SEO.

    Different domain, i.e:

    mywebsite-dot-com

    mywebsite-dot-fr

    or just a prefix:

    mywebsite-dot-com/en

    mywebsite-dot-com/fr

    etc.

I kinda feel like the prefix will be less good in terms of SEO and how google sees it, and that a different ending "fr" will boost the website among french searches for example – but maybe I'm wrong so I thought I'll ask. Different domains would be extra costs and time for sure

How many of those languages do you natively speak?

If you want to boost the overall authority of the domain do a single domain structure. If that’s not an issue and you don’t mind the complication of running multi domain website (it’s a pain in the ass) and all the extra links, and perhaps that location users default to a country tld, then go that way.
