  • Webpage slow despite strong metrics

    Hi,

I’ve noticed that when a non cached version of my website is loaded, it takes about 3-4 seconds to load.

I have strong scores in speedtests like gtmetrix (A in Pagespeed and Yslow) and Google Page Speed Insights (90+).

I also generally have a low number of requests and small file sizes.

I’ve looked at other sites that have comparable metrics to mine, and they usually load in around a second.

Why is my site taking so much longer to load? What other factors are their besides the ones I mentioned?

    My website is oneshotfinance.com

Bring up Chrome, fire up dev tools on Chrome and then flush cache/refresh your site URL (Ctrl-F5 I believe). Look at the network tab under dev tools and you’ll see a breakout of every included element on your page along with load times for each.

That will tell you which part(s) are taking longer to load and from there you can decide what to do with it.

Loads up fine on speed for me. I don’t know where it’s hosted but I’m in the UK and speed is more than acceptable.

I’ve just looked at it on mobile, not with any analytics tools, but I would agree it’s too slow.

Even just simple pages with text on hang for a second or so before then displaying instantly.

Feels more like server is too slow to retrieve and create the page rather than how long it takes you to download it.

Is it on cheap hosting? Is everything cached? What server is running?
