Urgent help with SEO! Went from rank 3-5 to 40-50!!!
Posted by Acrobatic_Rope_647 on September 20, 2025 at 12:46 pmHi guys.
Ive run my ecommerce store for over ten years and have always been really strong in the organic search. Usally ranking between 2-5 in the top with the most important keywords.
Since the two latest google core updates since 2024 and 2025 we have CRASHED! But our competitors still have the exact same site but have remaind on the top. I'm really trying to figure out what the hell happend… Ive searched everywhere trying to find the cause of this huge drop. The only thing I can think of is that our site havent changed much of its content but so hasnt the competitors. Im totalt lost, and we are losing a lot of money right now. GuestSeptember 20, 2025 at 5:17 pmCan be one of many reasons, but it’s possible that you
– lost backlinks
– made tech level changes ( if any )
– are affected by the Aug update
– r competitors strengthened their SEO ( cornerstone articles + backlinks + other fixes ) -

GuestSeptember 20, 2025 at 6:34 pmSadly you’re not alone — the last couple core updates wrecked a lot of established sites. Check if you got hit by EEAT signals (authority, freshness, trust), or technical stuff like page speed and internal linking. Even if your content hasn’t changed, Google’s weighting of signals has. Might be worth a content refresh + backlinks audit.

GuestSeptember 20, 2025 at 10:26 pmExact same site as the competition that remains? If your site is the same, why should it rank? Make it better. Improve conversation rate. And topical content that educates users at every level of the funnel. Increase the variety of content types (videos on articles, etc). You need to be better in order to rank.

GuestSeptember 21, 2025 at 6:35 amWe’d need to see the site to help. Post the URL.
Ps – it’s not a lack of changes to content, that’s not an issue in ecomm. Likely either a technical on-site issue or off-site/on-site spam.

GuestSeptember 21, 2025 at 4:06 pmI own a local CPA firm. For the past several years, we were always in the top 5 for all keywords in our city relating to accounting, tax, CPA firms, etc. In June or July, our rankings for major keywords started to drop massively to the 35 – 50 range. Now we’re back in the top 1 – 5 range. Here’s what I did:
– Reduced article/page length to a quick read, included more examples and FAQs. We now focus on pages that answer users questions quickly. Think dictionary style with an example section, and FAQ section for each page.
– Simplified meta descriptions and keywords.
– Updated old content
– Simplified page titles
– Removed keyword stuffing
This had an immediate effect. Here’s our 12-month search console graph for our primary keyword. Two weeks later we are now ranking higher than we ever have, 1 – 3 range many days.
I think it comes down to relevant content, that readers will read top to bottom. Once again, engagement and relevance are always key. Good luck to you.

What is your competitor doing that you’re missing? How strong is your internal linking? Backlinks? Site structure? Topical authority?
Do you have the same product and category structure as your competitors? -
I had something similar happen last year, and it turned out a bunch of my backlinks were either spammy or had been devalued. I started cleaning those up and focused more on building natural links from different sources. This guide really helped me figure things out: https://crowdo.net/blog/how-to-build-a-diverse-healthy-link-profile. It explains how to spot weak links and how to replace them with better ones that actually help rankings.
