    Transitioning Out of PPC

Posted by seohelper on April 8, 2021 at 8:51 pm

    Hi all,

I’ve been doing PPC for maybe 3 years now, definitely in a Junior role. I recently got hired (2 months ago) by a very well respected agency here and they are super tech driven and not much creative going on. (PPC, SEO, and anything creative they hand it off to someone else). I have a pretty nice skillset in analytics, SEO, ppc, web design, graphic design, etc. (wanted to have a well rounded set of skills to differentiate myself out of college).

Joining the team, I didn’t do anything PPC related at first I actually got to do a lot of the major design projects that they didn’t want to send off or actually started pitching again because they have someone in house. I found it incredibly enjoyable and it’s definitely more rewarding than PPC. I got my first PPC Project, set up a small time company with Google ads, easy stuff but I always ask myself if I can see myself doing this for more than a year and do I actually want to advance (become a senior and manage 10k-200k in accounts). I was thinking about it all day today and honestly I would think it would become stagnant or I would get bored. I looked at it from my team’s perspective as well, they’d want someone to flourish and grow with them not stray away as time goes, especially if they devote a lot of energy to help me in PPC (I’d hate to waste their time).

Earlier in the week, my boss was speaking with the CEO of our agency and spoke about expanding into brand design. I do the majority of design work for our group, if I could become apart of a creative team that served all groups of the company (For PPC, Web design, landing page, etc.) I could 100% see myself there. Unfortunately I don’t know how to approach them with my interest and that I could potentially serve all groups in our company design wise. They’ve never had someone in house before and the clients I’ve presented my work to for their project have been pretty happy with it to the point we were able to upsell more of this work.

The company is absolutely amazing, supportive in all ways you could imagine with competitive salaries + bonuses. It’s a pretty amazing opportunity I got with them (especially as a junior and I’m the legit newborn baby in the company), but I don’t want to botch anything up by sharing my interest in another role (mind you doesn’t exist yet, but if I could spearhead that I would). Probation ends in May!

I could really use another professional’s advice, if you switched out of PPC or what advice you have for me. I’d appreciate it so much!

Note: All I’m doing now is delivering design projects when they come, some PPC, and some account management.
