Too many fake clicks from Google search ads

Posted by seohelper on May 7, 2021 at 3:05 pm

    Hi there,

I’ve just started working with Google search ads and I’m not sure how to measure the campaign results and performance correctly. I’ve done quite detailed targeting and keywords research, following the advice from Google and marketing blogs. The traffic is low but it was expected as we decided to set the lower budget for a trial. Still, CPC is ok.

However, the ads got many fake clicks, 4/5 of which showed a 100% bounce rate in Google Analytics. Could you please share the tips on how to avoid such clicks and improve the performance of the ads?

What do you mean by Fake click? If you are talking about invalid click, then google’s system learns about it and makes the refunds automatically

Bounce rate can be a lot of things. One of my campaign has 98% bounce rate but I have conversion rate of 26%. The bounce rate if 98% is not true because I land people to a form and whether or not they complete the form, if the user leaves from that page it says bounce.

If you mean fake as in clicks for a single user that deliberately cost you money, these clicks are not counted. It used to be a tactic people used to waste their competitor’s budgets, by since Google starting looking at users IP addresses it can no longer be done (as easily at least)
It sounds like you may have legitimate clicks that arent getting the page they expect. My advice is to change the add to better reflect the page, or to edit the page to better show that they are in the correct place. This is why many companies use dedicated PPC landing pages.

Bounce is just that they didn’t navigate to another page. What is your average time on site?

have you checked the number of invalid clicks ? Also, I do not advice to completely rely on google support. Work by yourself on keywords and target audience.

We often get hammered by fake clicks when we use adwords. Google has refunded us a bunch of money, which we appreciate. They have caught fakes before we did. Would rather have clients. Wish the cheating would stop.
