Third party cookies blocked on Chrome as of 2021

Posted by seohelper on November 10, 2020 at 10:56 am

I’m in a little bit of panic because apparently I’ve been living under a rock all this time, but I just heard about chrome removing third party cookies in 2021. I have a few questions:

    1. I can’t find anywhere whether that means my remarketing lists will die or not? (Google and Facebook both)

    2. Regarding conversions, facebook claims that we should use the API for conversion reporting. What about Google? Does that mean that GTM essentially becomes useless for marketers?

Please share anything you know about this because my funnels are all conversion optimized and seriously. Quite worried now.

Facebook and Google already adjusted their tracking when Safari did the same thing (ITP). They’re not third-party cookies and you probably won’t notice any difference. I couldn’t imagine Google sabotaging their own business like that…

    1. Yep it dies on both, if it is dependent on cookies (1st party doesn’t matter either). More emphasis is now on getting consented 1st party data i.e. emails to use
    2. Google have always had a server side API in most of its tools, but they have recently rolled out server side GTM. Saying this, this does not completely solve attribution use cases

Ultimately the whole digital ecosystem is changing on web in all forms (targeting / measurement / attribution). It will be a new world in how do run paid advertising on the likes of FB / Google in the future. Google for example have already moved to modelled based conversions.
