There’s an fb page with the name of our business scamming people and we’re getting their bad reviews :(
Posted by on June 16, 2020 at 2:39 amLately we’ve been getting tons of negative reviews on our page by angry people who have us confused with another page using a name very similar to ours and in a related industry. This other page is advertising on fb offering a free product, the company gets their cc info “for shipping” and of course they later find strange charges for far more than the cost of shipping and have a hard time getting in touch with anyone. I’ve been commenting on each bad review a link to the page they’re looking for and explaining that we are unaffiliated. Occasionally one will actually try to message us first and I explain what’s going on and link them to the other page and encourage them to report the page if they feel they’ve been scammed. I’ve also reported the reviews to facebook as unfair since they aren’t meant for us. That was months ago and I haven’t heard anything from fb and they certainly haven’t done anything about it. meanwhile we’ve gone from 5 stars to 2.5. Have any of you had these problems? Is disabling reviews my only option at this point?

1) disable reviews.
2) make a public post explaining what’s going on and why you’ve disabled reviews.
3) hire a lawyer who understands trademark law.
4) follow your lawyer’s instructions.
5) don’t do the illegal shit that the other idiot commenter suggested or you’ll not only screw over whatever case you have, but potentially get yourself in trouble.

A. Change the name of your business.
B. Hire a lawyer.
C. Disable fb reviews
D. Explain to people that your company is different than theirs.
E. This most likely counts as copyright infringement/trademark law violation but it depends on where you live.
F. Take them to court, discuss with your lawyer and ask them to change their name/shut down their scam business.Edit: By the way, try to get evidence that they are scamming people. If so, you can shut their business down entirely.

Contact the other page and see if they’ll change their name. Tell them you’re considering hiring a lawyer.
