  • The account stealing my content completely ruined my page, which used to get over 5+ million monthly impressions

Hi everyone. I had a movie account on X where I posted scenes from obscure 80s/90s films from my archive. My account grew very quickly over 2–3 years. One day, I noticed that a much larger account about five times my size had been downloading my videos and reposting them. Considering that I spend two hours every day creating content and pay for Adobe programs to edit them, it was really upsetting. I sent them a very polite message asking them to respect the time and money I put into my work, and I even suggested we could support each other by retweeting each other’s posts.

One hour after I sent that message, my account got locked. They had organized a mass report attack targeting my profile picture; apparently the system flagged it as a violation due to the volume of reports. The lock was removed quickly, but after that moment, my engagement rate started dropping sharply. You all know how rule-violation flags can lead to long-term restrictions. From that point on, I was on this content thief’s blacklist.

I took a break and came back 5–6 months later. Soon after, my posts began getting removed for “policy violations,” even though they had been perfectly fine for two years. Everything started being mass-reported. I still kept some engagement thanks to a few public figures among my followers who occasionally liked and retweeted my posts, but there was clearly a visibility restriction on my account.

What made my account completely unusable were two hit posts. Within five days, two of my posts surpassed one million views. A few days after that, my account stopped appearing in search. Neither my account nor my posts show up in the search system anymore not even to my own followers on their timelines. My monthly impressions dropped from 5+ million to around 70K. My account was given what seems like the maximum possible visibility limitation.

I tried explaining the whole story the content thief, the mass-report attack, and how my account was unfairly destroyed to Suport, but X essentially has no real suport system. Just automated messages like “Sorry, you must have violated a rule. Please be more careful.”

It’s now been 2.5 years. I stopped using my account entirely. Today I checked again, and nothing has changed. Still invisible in search, still restricted.

I wanted to try contacting Su*port once more. There’s no form for this issue in the Help section, so I had no choice but to DM the X Premium account. I received some automated replies from Grok, then a case number was created, and then an automated message saying they only assist premium users. That same day there happened to be a discount on Premium, so I bought it hoping I could finally reach a real person. But now they’ve stopped responding completely.

One content thief managed to destroy the account I worked on for 5 years, and that’s how the story ended. It seems like my account has no chance of recovery. But if you have any advice or potential solutions, I’d really like to hear them

‘one content thief’ you know you can’t complain about people posting the same videos as you when your content is stolen in the first place, right? unless of course you were the one who made those obscure films on the first place, which you weren’t

    That’s rough.

If you suspect your account was flagged unfairly on X because of mass reporting or copying, you might still have a shot at recovery.

    * First, check if there’s any “locked/limited account” message. If there is, follow the verification process.
    * If it’s hidden/shadow-banned instead, try filing an appeal, explaining the mass-report or impersonation situation.
    * Meanwhile, grab screenshots of your original content and timestamps. They help when proving the theft or unfair takedown.

If you don’t get anywhere, you might need to rebuild somewhere else, but make sure you document everything now, just in case.

Well, well, well. A pirate complaining about piracy.
Must suck when someone rips off the content you ripped off.

Were you monetizing it? Otherwise it was a social media hobby to take up your time. It definitely sucks that happened to you, but other than general enjoyment, did you get anything else it of it?

Also to another point- I’m kind of surprised Hollywood studios didn’t go after you sooner

Best thing you can do is delete your account and start again for X. You should also post your content on all the major social media platforms. You have to diversify your platforms for the very reason you posted about.

Simple solution, leave X. Its a bot invaded right wing desinformation platform. Don’t give EM more money, its not worth it

Twitter is gone. It’s run exclusively by bots now. I don’t think any humans work there anymore. I had a premium account and could not cancel it. I had to just cancel my debit card. What’s funny is that after a year of not paying Twitter, the account is still premium. I don’t know how Twitter actually makes money if it doesn’t even shut off accounts not paying for premium services. My other suggestion is to submit DMCA requests for copyright infringement. That’s the best way to get something taken down.

You should probably take your editing talents to TikTok and consider copyright protection for your videos.
