Target CPA for Google Ads – which conversion?

Posted by duckwolf8097 on September 10, 2025 at 1:32 am

There's multiple conversions for my account, there's calls and form captures. If I set a target CPA for the bid strategy, which conversion will it be using for target CPA? For example, if I set to $50, will it be $50 for form captures or is it for calls?

If both calls and forms are marked as Primary conversions, Google will blend them and aim for an average $50 CPA across both. If you only want Target CPA to optimize for one type (like forms), set that as Primary or use a conversion action set.

Target CPA applies to all **primary conversions**, so if you want it specific (calls vs forms), separate them or adjust conversion settings.

Google will optimize for getting you more of the primary conversions you have within the $50 tCPA. The algo shoots for those ones as they are deemed the most valuable for your business.

So if you have calls as primary actions, it’ll try to get you more of calls within the $50 mark. And the secondary ones will not be optimized for by google, they’re just reflected in the dashboard

Good question! Target CPA optimises for all conversion actions that are set to “Include in ‘Conversions'” in your account. You’ll need to go to Tools & Settings > Conversions > Conversion Actions and make sure only the specific conversions you want to target (e.g., form captures) are set to ‘Yes’ in that column, otherwise it’ll treat both calls and forms as equal. Hope that helps!

It applies to all primary conversions. If you want to use different values for each primary conversion, apply them in the settings. For example, if a form fill capture generates a lead that is usually 3x more qualified than a phone call, you can put the value as 3 or 30 if the phone call is worth 10.

Target CPA applies to whichever conversions you’ve marked as primary in the account so you need to set calls or forms as primary depending on which one you want optimized.
