Super popular but massively convoluted and slow website from 2015, what to do?
Posted by on January 20, 2026 at 5:31 amI have a video game related content website from 2015 that was getting about 50,000 clicks per day and lots of business. Now most of the content is irrelevant and also the website is massively slow + bloated.
Considering that the website itself has massive authority and right now the only 100 clicks per day are simply searches that are looking the website itself back up again. Articles, pictures, information posts are all completely dead.
What's the best course of action in order to revive it:
A) Fresh slate and remaking the website into something much faster and better
B) Reworking the old content and hoping that Google sees the potential again

Go with A + selective B.
Rebuild the site on a fast, modern setup, keep the domain, and only update or redirect content that still has value or backlinks. Don’t try to revive everything — Google cares about current usefulness and site performance, not old authority alone.

Rework the content to new information in your niche people don’t come to your site because it fast they come because they are interested in the content
