Spam from ads
Posted by coffeentech on September 29, 2025 at 6:01 pmCan anyone tell me what process they are using to stop spam from coming into ad forms. We've done the usual and the most obvious on the back end. And within the form, but it just seems like we get a few, and it trains the agoleirithm to go after these spam bots, and it's so hard to retrain the agolarthm without actually just starting over.

GuestSeptember 29, 2025 at 6:18 pmI’ve written up my process for dealing with spam leads here: [https://pete-bowen.com/how-i-stop-spanish-job-seeker-leads-from-google-ads](https://pete-bowen.com/how-i-stop-spanish-job-seeker-leads-from-google-ads) this write-up is about Spanish job seeker leads because I was getting hammered by them at the time, but the process is essentially the same for any kind of spam:
1. Don’t advertise in the sewer.
2. Don’t optimise for spam leads ie don’t count them as conversions.
3. Speed up the relearning by using a data exclusion to cover the period in which you were getting spammed. -

GuestSeptember 29, 2025 at 6:48 pmThe way to weed out the spam leads can vary based off your unique situation. What campaign type are you running? Also, importing the offline conversions can help clean out the traffic quality to prevent spam & bots

GuestSeptember 29, 2025 at 10:26 pmAdd a hidden field or time based validation in the form so bots fail submission then rebuild the lead campaign with that clean signal so the algorithm optimizes toward real users only.

GuestSeptember 29, 2025 at 11:19 pmSpam is such a pain, right? Sometimes a fresh form or extra CAPTCHA can help break the cycle. It’s all about staying one step ahead.

GuestSeptember 29, 2025 at 11:35 pm1) Disable search partners
2) add exclusions for everything outside your target area (countries, states, counties, etc.)
3) remove easy spam conversions like button clicks or page views
4) website side add recapture, honeypots, and security that blocks bots, can always try and exclude outside countries from the website.Spam is getting a lot more sophisticated most likely utilizing AI because I’ve had a few clients get spam through acuity where they were picking dates, times, and filling out 12 fields.
I have a client im running pmax for, the only field is an email 🙄 but with heavy security blockage on the website we rarely get spam submissions.

GuestSeptember 29, 2025 at 11:48 pmWhat I did for a few weeks is turned off the spammed conversion action and only uploaded non-spam leads manually.
The other approach is sending the form submission ID as the order ID so that you can use a conversion adjustment and remove all the spam leads manually.
I went from a week of getting a dozen spams a day to not having any in months.

GuestSeptember 30, 2025 at 9:15 ammake your contact form a bit lengthy that way it would be harder for bots to fill them turn off search partners network asap along with dsplay neywork.

GuestSeptember 30, 2025 at 3:01 pmThe first 2 recommendations are fantastic. I’ve done everything on the back end. And on the server, in terms of blocking bots, but i’m going to take you up on those first two I appreciate that I need the advice very much!!
