  • Spam comments on Instagram: To block, or not to block?

Like many of you I imagine, I receive a LOT of spam comments on my business social media account. Virtually every post will get robotic spam commenters saying stuff like “Love it, DM [spam account] to promote it” (And then you’ll see that these accounts they’re telling you to promote your stuff on, they tend to have lots of followers, and virtually zero engagement on their posts — strongly indicating that it’s all just one big spammy facade)

While these are annoying, I’m wondering whether I should or shouldn’t block them?

On the one hand, I think: A little extra engagement, hey, might not hurt the growth of the account, ya know? Social media platforms tend to reward engagement and comments, no? So maybe such comments help your account grow, if even marginally?

On the other hand, 1) they’re just annoying as shit, 2) they clutter up my notifications with BS that I have to wade through to find the genuine comments, and 3) it’s probably annoying for the followers too to see that.

Where you do you fall on this and how you do handle spam comments in your business accounts?

    Thank you

Block em. You aren’t growing if all your engagements are fake.

Personally, I block every one. If I leave them there it makes it feel like nobody’s monitoring the account.

I delete their comments, but unless they follow me, i don’t block them.

Can you still hide certain words in comments? I haven’t worked on company IG pages in over 4 years but we were able to mute comments if people commented certain words.

So the commenter would see it but no one else would. So you could comment “<competitor name> is better!” and if i muted the competitor’s name, no followers would see the comment?.
