  • Social Media ‘Strategy’, what is it?

I changed careers last year and have a very small account that I'd love to grow. I follow a bunch of 'gurus' and lately I've seen that lots of them say 'you can't just post randomly, you need a strategy'. Every single person is talking about how you need a strategy, but of course you have to buy their $500 program to find what that is.

Here is the deal: I've tried a few low ticket items from a few different gurus and every single time I find that it's information that I already know. I feel like in theory I know A LOT about how to grow on social media. I know about having a good bio, posting reels/carousels, repurposing content, trial reels, hashtags, keywords, trending audio, hooks, visual hooks, etc. But I'm still struggling, partly due to not knowing what to post/being nervous in front of the camera/perfectionism/doomscrolling. But I also wonder if there is something missing like this 'strategy' everyone talks about. I suspect they might be referring to how every piece of content needs to send clients into your funnel or have a specific goal such as educate/entertain/sell? Is that it?

So, could someone tell me the big secret behind a social media strategy? Can I put a strategy together by myself? And also if you recommend any programs that are on the lower price and have actually good information. Thanks.

There isn’t a big hidden secret. A “social media strategy” basically means posting *for your audience* instead of random things. Each post should have a clear job: **educate** (share tips, answer questions), **entertain** (relatable, funny, storytelling), or **sell** (show your offer, proof, testimonials). Balancing those three is the strategy.

Yes, you can absolutely build one yourself:

    * Pick 2–3 content pillars (topics you’ll post about regularly).
    * Decide on a simple posting rhythm (ex: 3 posts a week).
    * Track what gets real engagement or client inquiries and double down on that.

As for programs — honestly, most paid ones repackage free info. If you want something budget-friendly, look for creators on YouTube who share content strategy breakdowns for free. Paid programs only add value if you need accountability or personal feedback, not secret knowledge.

If you’d like, share your niche — I can help you sketch out a simple content plan to get started.

In this case it means answering the question “why would somebody follow this channel and engage with the content on it?”

And then developing a plan to create content that delivers firmly on the above while helping the company do what it needs to do.

I really relate to this. I knew all the tips too but nothing was working until I stopped trying to do everything at once. For me, “strategy” just means being clear about what I want people to get from my posts and where I want them to go next.
I wrote down the 2–3 types of posts I can make (educate, inspire, sell) and how they connect to each other. Once I had that, posting felt less random and I stopped overthinking so much.
I also tried a cheap guide that explains hooks, CTAs and content ideas step by step and it gave me more structure without spending a ton of money. You can totally build your own strategy if you start simple and stick to it.

don’t need a $500 course for that. just stop posting random stuff and start posting with a purpose, thats all what having a strategy is about…

    a real strategy is basically:

    * decide on who you’re talking to (your audience)
    * what you want them to do (follow, buy, etc.)
    * how you’ll get them there (educate, entertain, sell… in a repeatable content format)

everything else, hooks, trends, editing, is just execution. if you know your audience + outcome, you can build your own strategy.

your bigger blockers sound like perfectionism + overthinking, not lack of info. best move is pick one lane, commit to posting consistently, and measure what holds attention (watchtime/replays). once you know what works, double down.

to make the testing part easier, what I do is run drafts through free video analysis tools (e.g. creafico, etc.) to get recommendations.

    hope this helps 🙂

I think most of the folks we work with who actually make a living off of social media all tend to have their own reasons, workflows and “strategy”. What I can observe is two things mainly: 1) they are always trying new things to get an edge, always testing and tinkering with their strategy. 2) the content itself really is the key. You can sped lots of time on the extras(hashtags, trending audio etc.) but if the content isn’t good, it just won’t work. You’ll have to find what makes your content good/bad and keep iterating until you get there. No two strategies are the same so if someone is selling you a “fix it all course” its probably a scam.

There’s no secret tbh. Strategy just means knowing your goal (awareness, leads, sales) and making content that points there. You can totally build one yourself without dropping $$ on a guru

I can vouch for YouTube and a bit of instagram.
Stop buying the courses, they are somewhat scam.

Here are basic things that you should do immediately if you want to get started with SM well.

-Pick a niche in which you’d be making your content about.

    Once that is done,
Then comes very important thing is research!!!

Look for the relatively smaller competitors. how their content is and what they are offering, and while watching their reel/video, what is one thing that you felt was missing, plus go through their comment section and note the ones that mention about what they liked and disliked about the particular video.

    – Now that you have gathered data, start making content!!!!
Your camera anxiety/nervousness will only go away when you start making content.

And if you expect results from the initial videos, forget that! Be ready to face the reality also those videos are the ones that help you get set with flow adjust and experiment with your speaking flow, your hand gestures, basically overall presentation.

    – In this way give atleast 50-60 videos to the algorithm to understand and give a signal to the algo that you’re serious about making content.

If you have some further queries, feel free to ask it away in replies or in DM’s
