    Hi everyone,

I’m a freelance filmmaker but have been asked to help bump up brand awareness on social media for a 3-store chain of restaurants. Helping them build a posting schedule, cure the instagram feed appearance, take pictures, and videos to use as stories and posts. How would you charge them? A fixed price per month for the managment of the accounts plus hourly pay for videos and photos? How much would you charge? Thank you in advance!

Either charge for your hours – shoots, edits, planning and bill them, or charge per asset. Per asset you might loose some and you might win some. Three quick snaps of a few cocktails at the bar might take an hour, @ $250 each image, you’re at $750/hour. A complicated shoot, edit, re-edit could take you 12 hours at $500/asset you are making much less. Just make sure you’re winning more than losing. Lastly, you could propose a project fee. I’ve found that the whole cost upfront can get the client squeamish and reduce scope before you even start. Feel them out, see if they can give you their budget. It’s fine to push back and ask for more based on your time.

Establish your base package price for general social media scheduling, management etc.
Then offer bolt-ons for videos and photos. So the client understands where the numbers are coming from.
For instance – social media package one covers three social media channels, posting once daily each. Cost equals (I charge 8 hours).
Then cost for video or photo shoots. Or maybe bundle in a monthly shoot into the package but break down the package so they see where the costs are coming from.
