Should you narrow down lookalikes with interests?

Posted by seohelper on January 15, 2021 at 5:42 pm

I always thought now a days it’s better to give more freedom to Facebook, yet I keep hearing people talk about flex targeting, specifically flexing Lookalikes with an interest.

I don’t understand that, is that advise outdated, can somebody enlighten me on the idea behind that, and whether that has worked better for you.

    Let me know your thoughts!

It’s worth a test. I imagine some find success with this technique and some do not. The results will be unique to your situation.

I’d personally just stick with the lookalike but like the other poster said, no harm in trying. I do think lots of super targeted layered targeting is a bit outdated now. iOS 14 will probably force people to target larger audiences anyway

I recently went the other direction. Site pixel was screwed up, so no lookalikes possible. Used interests as a stopgap, then added lookalikes when the pixel got spun up.

Got a nice boost to stats across the board and a reduced CPC. It was for a low awareness product. Those often benefit from a more diversified strategy, however.

It is often worth a try, have def seen it work sometimes and recently – times include

-brand new campaign with limited pixel /audience size, to help it start strong

-when the interest is really really well correlated with what you want (or conversely, those outside your interest are no good at all)

-things are not working with a broad lookalike so …like why not try something else, nothing to lose

there is also the interest expansion

I’m totally open to hearing I’m crazy here – maybe things are indeed changing to make these work less well – agree with the Danger_Mouse that its less important now but not sure how far
