Should I use UTM Links to better track Facebook ads?

Posted by seohelper on August 23, 2021 at 1:16 pm

So I’m curious if people are using UTm links for their Facebook ads. If so, do you set them up at the ad level upon building the ad or do you use a third party like “Campaign URL Builder”.

    All help appreciated

You should also be using UTM parameters — or proprietary tracking parameters if you’re using a CRM like HubSpot that has their own — for your ads, Facebook or otherwise. Not doing so is a risk in missing out on attributable return on your marketing efforts.

answer is that you should always tag everything so that your analytics can pick up performance.

but its hard to do so when you gotta build the permutation at the ad level.. altho if im not mistaken, you can build a cohort in GA and push that to google ads for their LaL. if so thats your best use case to tag/identify/build new audience

I’m confused by this question. Shouldn’t UTM tracking have been used even before IOS14? Were people not using UTM before this and now all of a sudden, people think it’s a good idea to use it?

Every platform you advertise should have links configured with UTMs added. How do you track anything otherwise?

Most platforms have some element of over-attribution (Facebook was probably more guilty than most up until recently) so you should be using a third-party Analytics platform to get a better idea of results. Google’s products integrate natively, but if you’re using another ad platform you’ll need to use UTM parameters to have properly-formatted tracking.
