  • Should I use my author name or my webcomic name for my accounts?

    Hey guys,

I’m a comic artist (totally unknown and new to social media) and wonder how I should market myself, by my author name or my project name?

For example, my author name is “Oclam” and my project is an online comic called “Night Shifters”.

On FB, Instagram, Twitter etc. is it better to have an account called:

    1. “Oclam / (*@Oclam*)”
    2. “Night Shifters / (*@NightShifters*)”
    3. “Oclam / (*@NightShifters*)”
    4. “Night Shifter / (*@Oclam*)”

    ?

    Thank you very much !

Just my 2 cents…Ideas for comics may come and go, some may do well, others not so much. The one constant is you. Build your personal brand.

I would also recommend researching webcomic authors you already look up to to see how they are doing it.

    Use your author name.

Think about it. Are you only ever going to write “Night Shifters”? What happens when you move on to the next project? Will you create social media accounts for every single project you work on?

You want your readers to follow YOU, and by extension, everything you create. Build awareness around yourself and they’ll be more likely to read anything else you put out.

The answer to this question depends on how much time budget you have to manage the social media. If you can only generate content for one and manage one, then just focus on author profile. Otherwise, go for both.

Why the default is author profile: It gives you more creative moving room. You can share work in progress (not just the final work), you can talk about your process, you can talk about your tools. At some point, you might go ahead and start a second webcomic or create a book on a completely different topic or support another creative work with your art, etc.

The first profile is always the personal one.
