SEO role: switch now or wait?
Posted by on January 24, 2026 at 4:25 pmFor quite some time, I’ve been planning to switch jobs and stay in SEO. But recently, my manager dropped a pretty lucrative offer, they’re willing to train me in ads and even give me a full month just to learn.
I was already planning to pick up ads on my own, and now I’m honestly confused af.
Should I switch now, or stay here for another year and learn ads properly? -

I’ve done both since Ads appeared on the scene. SEO and PPC share a lot in common. There’s nothing stopping you from excelling at both.
While I’m sure there are plenty of PPC managers who are better than me 1) they can only take on so much work and 2) just this week I was aske d to review three PPC teams who are specialists at certain aspects of PPC.
But they’re not subject matter experts. One of them didnt even seem to understand how bad phrase match is in B2B – where phrase match not only matches with 99% irrelevant or absolute negative keywords but 1000’s of them.
