This is probably the biggest SEO news of the year (more shocking than Google's March algorithm update).
Looking at the mention of the words "publishers" and "creators" in the press release (and the frequency and density of the words are pretty high), it makes us SEOers and content creators look forward to this product.
In addition, I do not know whether the emergence of this competitor can make Google care a little more about content creators, anyway, there is competition is a good thing, and for us SEOers is an opportunity, we will see.

So many others have tried. Making a super useful product is part of the equation. But we have to remember that Google has essentially bought it’s way onto Android and Apple mobile devices. Unless Google were to lose their Apple deal, ChatGPT is likely only going to chip away at desktop, which Microsoft has already done to the tune of 25% in the US.

Migration occurs 1-2% each year, that’s the best you can hope for. Also why would this be a huge plus? Do SEO operators already know how the new algo works?

If searchGPT proves to be a superior product, then sure, it can overtake Google. Might take several years but possible. G has such a massive head start I would be surprised if it makes even a 1-2% dent in market share. Google chasing AI dreams outside of core search could prove to be more detrimental than SearchGPT
