I started an Instagram account where I feature local restaurants/bars/cafes/food trucks on my page.

My content method is pretty much this: I basically have been commenting on local restaurants’ posts asking if I can repost them to shout them out. When they say OK, I go to a Repost app and add my own caption w/ their photo credit & original caption underneath.

    So basically I write this:

    > This is your daily reminder to order your Valentine’s Day goodies ? And seriously, what better thing than hot chocolate bombs?! ☕️

    >?#location

    > ? @accountnamehere

    > ⬇️ #Repost

    >Guess what?! We are now taking orders for Valentine’s Day hot chocolate bombs!
    .
    .
    .

My question is, should I continue commenting on each post I want to repost asking for permission? Do people always ask or do they just repost? I always give credit and it’s a pretty positive account since I offers 100% free exposure, but I feel like a lot of my time is spent searching, commenting, & waiting for them to give me the OK.

I’ll just repost them without asking, cus it’s a win-win situation. You got free content and they got free exposure

I think that it’s enough if you just tag the original content creator. If they don’t like that you posted their content, they will probably let you know nicely. And if you just use it and they don’t like it, they might report that content or your account.

I think if you’re going to repost someone else’s content, it’s good form to mention them in the first line of the caption. Too often, the mention is an afterthought, buried below a ton of crap, and too few people see the source.
