  • Re-building a website from the ground up and maintaining SEO value

I'll be rebuilding a website of mine from the ground up. We’ll be keeping the same domain, just rebuilding the application.

The existing site has thousands of posts indexed by Google. I know that keeping URL paths the same for existing posts is best practice to preserve SEO value — but we also need to implement a new URL path structure.

We're thinking of implementing a new URL path structure for NEW posts created after the redesign — but maintain the old URL paths for existing posts indexed by google.

    Will this be an issue?

As long as the redirects are in-place you should maintain rankings for each page. We’ve found the shorter the URL the better the ranking for our SEO clients but there’s some debate about that and it might depend of UX value and industry.

    A good redirect structure.
