  • Ranking competitive keywords with homepage URL?

Hello reddit SEO, today I would like to ask your opinions on ranking keywords with homepage.
I have a business selling tiles and bathroom appliances. For the tiles stuff, i have managed to rank pretty well on almost all important keywords through content and backlinking. It’s more straightforward.

However, for the bathroom products, I haven’t been able to figure out a way to rank. Researches using Ahref, I found that most highly ranked competitors are using their homepage. There are very few contents that I could find, probably due to the nature of the products. There are not that many things to write about.

So in this situtation, what would be the best course of action to compete? I’m considering:

    – Set up seperate domains to target “bathroom appliances” niche.
    – Improve social presence though youtube, facebook…etc….to drive traffic to website.

What else could I do? Thanks for all your help!

It might be easier, in this case, to rank using your homepage dedicated to that set of searches. But you just make a new page with content that is dedicated to that search and build links accordingly. Maybe their domain has way more content surrounding that keyword that you are lacking. You should not get a new domain as this would dilute your brand and multiply your link-building costs.

I think you should check the backlinks for the homepage of your competitors. Do they have backlinks with exact keyword you are targeting? how many links they have with related keyword?

    I would suggest 2 things:

    1) Create a subdirectory for this content, and link to it from the other pages of website. Make it another root director index.

    2) I would reach out to a Google News Backlinks provider and get this new subdirector mentioned in news. Try to rank news content as a Tier 2 structure, then also create some Tier 3 news to point backlinks at the Tier 2 news. The Tier 3 should NOT point at your site.

    3) You’re spot on with social media. Absolutely create this content. Put the YouTube video on all related pages to extend people’s time on-page(s). Higher the audience retention, the better the rank

    ahref gives me stress…lol

ideally, don’t set up seperate domains. keep all relevant content in your main domain so you are beefing up your content, seo potential, and relevance. remember, if you set up another domain, your main site is now competing with the separate site.

you can begin product features (blogs) on your site. pick a popular piece, showcase it’s features, be content rich, have a couple photos, publish & share to social. now do that again for other products. you’ll notice your rank start to improve with consistency
